Here is the promised fixing release 14 of Apophysis 7x! It now has built-in DirectColoring support and another ton of additions and fixes.

The changelog:
  • Fixed a memory leak within the thumbnail generation code.
  • Merged the Apophysis7X/DC-branch into the main code. DirectColoring is now generally available for Apophysis 7X.
  • Added a transform property named "var_color" which blends DirectColoring for an individual transform between zero (off) and one (on) - you can access this feature on the color-tab in the editor window. (captioned "Direct color")
  • Added script support for var_color. (access with "Transform.VarColor")
  • Added descriptive icons in the variation lost of the editor which indicate whether the individual variation supports 3D or DC.
  • Fixed the "multithreading"-glitch in the options window. The field now represents the actual setting again.
  • If you hover a triangle in the editor, the text on the bottom right now also contains the variation weights for each variation applied.
  • Added dc_linear, dc_bubble and dc_carped as optional plugins to the installer. All of these support DirectColoring.
  • Fixed a bug which prevented the mouse cursors from changing when hovering a transform "widget" in the editor window.
  • Changed the script procedure "ShowStatus(<string>)" so it now displays a status message again in the first panel of the main status bar.
  • Rotating the gradient using a drag operation on the gradient display now updates the value text box.
  • Fixed some random weirdness within the built-in curl- and curl3D-variations.

You can download the Installer, the Portable package or the Source code :) Have fun!

PS: You can download the bundled DC-plugins here if you decide for the portable package!

I have no idea if anyone's going to read this let alone hlep my sorry soul...

... but I've not used apop since before Apop 3D hack was out, and then I didn't do much. So yes, old school user here. I still can't get a polished render.... even if I've had a render for a WEEK while away on vacation.

What values/settings are you guys using to render a moderate amount of work for a 1600x900 resolution file? Anything that yields a polished result will make me happy... because atm every I render is way too damned grainy to even think about submitting. It just doesn't look as polished as a render as I see others submitting, so I know it can be done. I've had renders for 1,2 5, 8, 16, 24, 30, 50, 100 and so on up to having a 7 day render... and nothing's looked good. And I can't even begin to remember what settings/values I used for my machine (which is only a few months old, so it's not like I'm running on something way out of date or cruddy.)

I am sorry I can't help you and it looks like no one else will. I have no idea how to even run a script so I am basic as basic gets.

As a general example about people NOT replying to you. I posted that my service dog of 10 years died on 11-6-10 and posted it in my journal 6 weeks ago and no one said one word except for me who is shocked at how self-involved and un-compassionate people are.

I hope you stumble on an angel like my girl was to me. It makes the fact that people do not give a crap about you easier. Angels do come in human form but are rare because we are far too imperfect than animals.

I'm very sorry to hear about your service dog! Animals share such a unique bond with humans, it's hard for other humans to even begin to understand how it feels to lose a pet, let alone a service animal. They're more than just an animal to us, they're life companions. They're a silent friend that seems to understand you when no one else does.

As for my apophysis problems, it was the one thing keeping me from getting back into rendering fractals heavily (I used to heavily, when 1.01 was the big thing, and the apophysis website was up and about. While I was away, the 3D hack came out, etc.) I stopped working in apophysis because of my new rendering problems (was on a new machine with sufficient hardware, so I knew that wasn't the issue) so I've yet to try again.

My mother just had reconstructive kidney surgery and I've had a myriad of health problems including a hospital stay since making all these posts, so I'd have to download anew while I'm visiting my parents. I used to write a few scripts and create my own gradients.

While I'd love to get back into it, if I can't solve my rendering issues, I'm not sure I will.

Thank you for taking time to write to me. Especially about my girl. She was my everything. Thank you for being another angel sent to me when I was feeling low today. Like no one cared. :)

I am sorry to hear of your health problems. I have very many myself and the worst part of it is I am always in some degree of pain. My only escape from it is sleep. I was in the hospital for 3 days in January because something cut off my blood supply to my extremties and one spot in particular in my colon where I was bleeding internally. My nailbeds on hands and feet were blue grey and my face was a white I can not explain. Off to the ER. They knew what it was but had no idea why it happened or what to do for it.

I hope my reply finds you immersed in fractals. If not can you tell me the specs on your computer. I am a geek and love to upgrade and play with the insides of computers. I am working on my first case mod but before I put it all together I am adding a new fan and heatsink to my cpu. This will be my first brain surgery so to speak. Before the new heatsink and fans I will have to take out all my wiring, the psu, a hard drive and all else to make enough room to work.

My beloved Saarra was and will forever remain my beloved angel. Thank you again for taking time to write to me. I am thankful you did. One day when the time is right you will be rendering some beautiful fractals. Have faith and it will come to pass. I will pray for your Mother and you to regain your health. My girl had chronic renal failure. Kidney disease has no mercy and sadly for dogs only one outcome...death. I took care of her for 3 years. We were each others caretakers. It makes the bond of love even stronger.

You have my well wishes, my prayers and my thankfulness.

yay! you man are awesome! this new feature and mention of multi-threading made me think of a certain feature I'd love to request, if you allow me (and if it is possible): 3-thread multi-threading. It may sound strange, but it's only practical on quad systems - 3 threads for rendering and one left for running system, going over web and such. 2 threads leave one core unused and 4 make the PC almost unusable, so, you know... Pretty please *begs*
