falloff3 by Xyrus-02 falloff3 by Xyrus-02
I was peeking it a bit before and of course, I'll give you the plugin I was talking about :lmao: This here is the third version of falloff going under the name falloff3.

In this package, you will find the variations falloff3, post_falloff3 and pre_falloff3. Each of them has a different purpose allthough many of you might know the difference between "regular" variation plugins and those prefixed with "pre" or "post".

For those who don't know this difference or don't know how to install a variation plugin, I've included an introduction in form of a PDF file. This introduction also explains the workings of falloff3. It is a complex plugin so please, if you have difficulties, refer to the introduction first. I'm happy to answer your questions but I don't want to tell the same thing over and over again :heart:

The flame in the preview image is also included in the package.

The new things in falloff3 compared to falloff2 are the following:
  + Added logarithmic blur type
  - Removed linear blur type
  * Relayouted blur types: 0=gaussian, 1=radial, 2=logarithmic
  + Introduced alpha parameter to give detail control over radial and logarithmic blur (doesn't do anything for gaussian blur)
  * Renamed x0,y0,z0 to center_x, center_y, center_z
  * Renamed scatter to blur_strength
  * Renamed min_dist to min_distance
  * Renamed invert to invert_distance
  * Renamed type to blur_type
  + Added shape parameter to select the border shape: 0=circle, 1=square
  * Fixed a bug which would cause a division by zero in radial blur under certain circumstances
  * Refactored and improved performance

Mac and Linux users working with WINE - be advised: please use the "legacy" version of each of the three variation plugins. The other two (x86, x64) require the Visual C++ Redistributable (2012) and AFAIK it can't be easily installed on WINE runtimes. The "legacy" version is only available for 32 bit Apophysis.

Users of Windows have to install the Visual C++ Redistributable. Depending on whether you are using Apophysis 7X15D 32- or 64-bit (or any higher version), please download and install either:
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (32 bit): www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo… Click „Download“ and select „VCREDIST_x86.exe“
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (64 bit): www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo… Click „Download“ and select „VCREDIST_x64.exe“

Have fun!

Hi Xyrus, I've been looking through the code for this plugin in an effort to port it to my project and saw something I didn't quite understand, and was wondering if you could clarify:

#define mind(x, x0) (x<x0?x0:x)
#define maxd(x, x1) (x>x1?x1:x)

It appears those are doing the exact opposite of what their names indicate. min is returning the max, and max is returning the min. Was this intended?

Thanks.

Might be that you're right. I didn't look myself now but the code you pasted does indeed invert the conditions. Given the use of these particular macros in falloff3, it doesn't make a difference anyway. But yes, it's better if you flip the conditions.

Hi, I recently tried to install 7x on a desktop pc I just got and when after install when I try to run it I get this message:"SetDllDirectoryA could not be located in Kernel32.dll"  any ideas on how to bypass/fix that?  I'm stuck using old versions of Apo for now (although I still like the 2.09 version)

Oh now that is something new to me D: I don't think it has something to do with the particular plugin though. Maybe you could tell what version of Windows you're using?

ah I think it's a service pack thing, I got an old p.o.s. desktop from a pawnshop and when I tried to install some other programs it said they required Service pack 2 or later, it's running XP with Service pack 1 at the moment. I just downloaded SP2 so I'll let you know if that solves the problem, thanks, I also get an error message when trying to use the falloff3 plugin (although the legacy versions DID work), I forgot what it the error said but I'm pretty sure it's also going to be service pack related.

Well ok so here we have the problem. Apo 7X doesn't support Windows XP since version 15A. Also, the x86/x64 versions of my plugins are only supported in 15D or higher. If you use an older version of 7X or another version of Apo or not using windows at all, you need to take the legacy version of the plugins.

thanks for the update, I'll be looking for the older version of 7x then, the main thing for me is finding one that will work on XP and me being able to use the DC plugins, do you have a link to version 15 or whatever the last 14 version was? Most of the links in my journal are no longer working or link to sites you don't use anymore :/
I have limited time on what I can do as I have no home internet access and have to use the public library which is limited to 1 hour at a time and 2 hours max a day

here's what I did with falloff3 in Windows XP Apo7x15D, I added the text so you can see what Hardware I used and what I discovered with an error regarding a problem in the source code, as well as a paramshare:
Thanks for sharing :)
